Who is this
Karebu, painter of things
KAREBU is a queer contemporary artist working with mixed media. Influenced by an upbringing in a multicultural environment and early exposure to all forms of artistic expression, KAREBU has spent years cultivating a distinctive art style and method.
The Karebu phillosophy
Art is meant to let all who engage with it forever keep the childhood wonder of discovery – be a way to express oneself without restrictions from society or your own mind.
For every doodle, sketch, painting holds a piece of your soul, no matter how small, immortalising both the mundane and the significant moments of one's life.
Originating from a need to express raw, unfiltered and unrepressed feelings, unburdened by the crushing weight of perfectionism usually associated with the fine arts, KAREBU steps away from traditional painting techniques and follows a more spontaneous and unconventional method that is distinguished by a playful creative process.
Creating fantastical and imaginative scenes full of colour and abstract shapes, offering a glimpse into our world through the eyes of someone who feels out of place in it. Sharing a journey of self discovery and personal growth with each piece.
My process
the
Acrylics
The acrylic works are created using finger painting and a variety of printing techniques directly onto the canvas, creating a unique layering of interwoven colours that can only be achieved through spontaneity and controlled chaos
the
Sketches and doodles
The sketches and doodles are populated by strange creatures and monsters, and the illustrations combine photography and digital art tools to create eccentric, vibrant images full of life.
